A Proper Claret 2015

Crystalline garnet hue that shimmers with aromas of saltine crackers above the rim, sweet fruity melange of red and dark berries with a twinge of blackberry cream bon bons, with a sweet spicy edge Palate--Full bodied, full flavored with a minerally front setting off somewhat confused but not altogether unpleasant berry compote with big bold flavors of mixed berry preserves.  It is without doubt tasty, even if somewhat non-specific and I none-the-less tend to like it and think it will go great with our Chicago, Lou Malnati's pizza flown in from Chi-town.  I paid $10 for this marked down from $20.  The good folks at Bonny Doon make this wine and it's unique and informative (in a joking kind of way) label. The Wine Enthusiast gives this wine a healthy 91 points and while I don't often disagree with the "experts" I think in this case it is over rated; 88 would be the best I could do but whatever. At $20 I would be disappointed; at $10 I will raise a glass and b

Punto Final Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

*Dark plum hue with room wafting aromas of luscious ripe berries with a distinct, rustic, herbal hint at the rim with nice minty nuances deeper in the glass. Palate--Such a different expression of the grape, with tasty dark berries and that mint beam in the mid palate, a fleeting finis h it seems but then jumps back in with a surprise finish. The grapes come from Mendoz Argentina known more profoundly for their signature grape Malbec of which this reminds me and yet not.  *All of the above is right on opening so I will repost after it has time to breath.  Right now I really like this I tend to dislike "cheap cabs."  But winemaker Pablo Sanchez has something nice going on here. I do't remember what I paid for this but I believe it was around $10 and I grab more if I have the chance.  I'm raising a glass and so should you!

Poggio Al Leone Morellino di Sansanso Riserva 2013

Plum hue with aromas of lovely finessed bouquet of forest floor, sweet cherry, rustic pie cherry, a touch of grapefruit, and ash. Palate--fully integrated, rich back bone of cherry fruit with mid-palate of slightly bitter tart pie cherries and an earthy rustic finish. This 6 year old Tuscan is drinking great right now and should be enjoyed for another couples years but it is truly peak at the moment.  I paid $13 for this markdown at $27 and I will grab more if I get the chance so raise a glass!

Nine Points Pinot Noir 2016 (Carneros)

Crystalline candy apple red hue with aromas of cherry berry fruit with baking spices. Palate--Brilliant fruity front palate with bright red Cherry berry fruit in abundance with sweet baking spices and a great finish with a touch of bitters that lingers. I paid $13 for this super value where it sells for around $20 which is a good buy at any rate.  I p[aired it with homemade seafood chowder and it was perfect so raise a glass!
